Comic Book Shuffle 4 winners!

The masses gathered at Cliff's Con in Plainville, CT to judge Free Lunch Studios 4th Comic Book Shuffle. In the closest voting result that we've ever had, the winners by a narrow margin were Pete Colapietro and Emma Ort! Everyone that participated in the Shuffle competition will, as always be published but the winning team will get the cover honor and a feature next to their story in the next Shuffle book. Congrats and thanks to all Shuffle participants from your friends at Free Lunch!

Black Friday Comic Fest!

One of my favorite events is coming up! The Black Friday Comic Fest is a very fun, all ages, annual workshop where we create our own Post-it Note comics, eat snacks, watch cartoons & movies and hold a great comic sale! This event runs from 12:30p - 4:30p and is only $10 each! If you want to stay for the Drawing and Painting class, you are welcome to for an additional $20. Free Lunch Fear Fest!


Free Lunch is taking back Halloween! The first ever Free Lunch Fear Fest will feature the works of horror painter, David Davies, Zombie comic publisher, Guild Works Publishing (that also published the work of your Free Lunch hosts), freaky photographer, Coelynn McIninch and scary specialists, The Horror News Net! Special events that will include: a EXCLUSIVE RELEASE PARTY FOR: WORST CASE SCENARIO from GWP, a wandering zombie just dying to have his photo taken with you and more!!!

Food, folks and fear will all be on tap for this first ever Free Lunch Fear Fest!

King of Monster Mountain 3


We are hosting our special 3rd annual workshop Saturday October 29th, the Saturday before Halloween, called King Of The Monster Mountain! Matt Ryan, creator of Monster Labs, will teach a new special creature creation workshop for all ages that runs from 11 am until 2 pm! Who will have the scariest? Who made most disgusting? Whose will win King Of The Monster Mountain?

3 hour session, Saturday morning, October 29th 11am to 2pm.
Workshop is only $5!

Comic Book Shuffle returns!

The countdown to Shuffle 4 is just about here! The date will be November 26th for the challenge and the 27th in Plainville CT for the judging. Something Scary Gallery!

Artists! Free Lunch Studios is holding an Gallery Show called "Something Scary!"
We seek your interpretation of "Something Scary" for a Halloween themed display and consignment sales. Details below!

Eligibility: Free Lunch Comics is looking for imaginative, creative artists, painters, illustrators, collage artists, and others to participate in our Gallery 2011, "Something Scary".

Opening & Awards Reception: Monday, October 31st from 6-9 p.m. All entry artists are encouraged to attend the show.

Submissions: You can submit paintings, collage, mixed media, and drawings. All work submitted must be framed with mechanics ready to hang or mount for display.

Size Limits: None

Delivery: Call 860-305-6621 to arrange delivery options.

Notifications: Will occur by email or Facebook.

Return: Artist will be notified when to pick up their declined work. Accepted, unsold work must be picked up on November 26th - 27th.

Requirements: Artisits whose work is selected must meet the following requirements:
Fees: $5 hanging fee for each entry, limit: five.Entry form for each piece. Each flat piece must be framed unless specific arrangements made. Free Lunch Comics reserves the right to display or refuse work for any reason.

Fifth House Festival!

Drawing and Painting for Teens: Final Fifth House Festival! Comic Fest!

Free Lunch Studios will host Comic Fest! A selection of vendors, comic artists and publishers will gather Sunday August 21st from 10 am to 3 pm for the coolest comic themed festival! Learn how to draw characters from the Muppets (and more) with cartoonist/writer Brad Gilchrist. Find out in a fun and informative, “Meet, greet and drawing session. “ Brad will give a talk about his history in the world of comic strips and cartoons, including The Muppets, Nancy, and sports feature, CT Fan.
Along with the talk and drawing demonstration, visitors can view a Gallery Show of Brad’s personal collection of original comic strip art, including: Blondie, Hagar, Gasoline Alley, Zits, B.C. Beetle Bailey, For Better Or For Worse, Rose is Rose, and many more.

Comic Book Shuffle results are IN!

The Comic Book Shuffle results are IN. With a record breaking turnout for the Plainville Cliffs Con and massive amount of votes, the third place winners were Mike Finger and Keith Murphey for "Last Call". Greg Lallman and Hector Rodriguez grabbed second place for, "Untitled" leaving Chris Wrann and James Rodriguez to take first place with, "Dead Zone".

The Comic Book Shuffle 2 "Secrets" also made its debut this weekend at the Shuffle Event at Free Lunch Studios and the Plainville Cliffs Con.

Comic Strip Art Gallery

Free Lunch Studios in Granby, CT is pleased to present a gallery of the private collection of comic strip art of Brad Gilchrist. Mr. Gilchrist is a long-time writer and artist of comic strips including The Muppets, Nancy, and The Rock Channel. The collection features original strips from such features as Garfield, Broom Hilda, Zits, and others. The display will feature approximately 30 strips and sketches.

The gallery opening will occur at the Free Lunch Studios at 6 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2011. The exhibit will remain open for viewing for the period of a month. Free Lunch Studios is located at 518 Salmon Brook St. (rear entrance) Granby, CT 06035. Please call Steve Kanaras at 860-810-4927 for hours and availability for viewing.
