New Trade Paperbacks are IN!

The spinner has been re-stocked and it has some great titles such as: Hellblazer, Superman, Incredible Hulk, various Avenger trades, Star Trek and more! We\'re also celebrating the Star Wars 3D release with a TON of Star Wars comics from today and yesterday!

Along with the updated Spinner and Star Wars comics, we still have a great selection of $1 floppies and comic sets!

Free Lunch's new twist on A La Cartoon!

Coming to the Granby Patch 2/3/12: the first ever A La Cartoon: Self Serve Caption Contest! Matt and Steve are putting the joke in your hands for a change. Free Lunch's Drawing and Painting drop in!

February 10th from 4 - 6:30, Matt Ryan will host a drop in session of Drawing and Painting for Teens, Free Lunch's longest running class. In honor of the creativity behind the saga based in a galaxy far, far away, we will be creating our own aliens, warriors and princesses! The workshop is $20 to participate (unless you are already a member) and there will be a lot of Star Wars comics for purchase too!

Classes and Events at Free Lunch Studios

Cartoon Anatomy is the basic 4 week course that will teach working lines and simple shapes, creating the foundation of character design, form, gesture, expression and a couple sneaky "tricks" we've learned along the way. Courses include our "Free Lunch" named after our comic company and newly opened studio. That will be pizza (purchased from our neighbors at New England Pizza (which is awesome)) and soft drinks, served before this class.

4 week class - 2 hour sessions starting at 12:30pm
Limited to 8 students per class, classes are $120

Writing for graphic novels will include instruction on script formats, the elements of graphic novel “language”, and things to include and avoid while constructing a graphic novel. Other topics covered will include working with artists, working with editors, plotting, characterization, and thematic story constructions. There will be two writing exercises with peer review covering the creation of believable characters with powerful dialog, and creating a classical plot structure. Facilitated by Steve Kanaras – Writer of Only in Whispers, Pork n' Beans & Beyond the Kuiper Belt and Publisher of Free Lunch Comics.

4 Hour Workshop – 11am – 3:30 pm with a half hour lunchbreak - Free Lunch provided! Workshop is $55

The perfect follow up to Cartoon Anatomy, Creating A Cartoon World focuses on creating mood, environment, and detail to the storytelling process. The goal of this 4 week series is to take the ability of making characters, and place them into dramatic settings, convincing surroundings and exciting stories. Course will include the ever popular, "Free Lunch" from our neighbors over at New England Pizza. Taught by Matt C Ryan

4 week class - 2 hour sessions
Limited to 8 students per class, classes are $120

Create a finished comic strip or page in Comic Book Storytelling. This 4 week course is for the student who has finished Cartoon Anatomy. Work from a script or create your own story to work from in this exciting class. Dealing with slice of life, slapstick humor, elements of horror or the most intense action, make all of your pages works of art. Free Lunch and drink served before or after this 2 hour class. Taught by Matt C Ryan

Take Matt Ryan's popular Friday Drawing and Painting For Teens sessions at its new location at Free Lunch Studios! Come and develop skills in a relaxed atmosphere while working on individual projects. Components of drawing and painting will explore pencil, charcoal, watercolors and acrylic paint, working from photo reference and the imagination. Emphasis will be on creativity and individual expression. Experiment with a new medium, try something new!
Rolling enrollment, start anytime
10 week course, 2 hour sessions, Fridays from 4 - 6pm.
Class is $200, ages 13 and up
